October Wines of the Month are in and OUT....STANDING!

I am very excited about the two wines I have selected for your October, Wine Club, Wines Of the Month.  Both are unique to their region of origin and true expressions of the grape varietal(s).

As we move into Fall, we want our reds to have a bit more depth and intensity, primarily to accompany heartier seasonal foods - not to mention the cockles of our hearts.  Both of these wines do precisely this -with wonderful style, grace and sophistication.  Think of them as "Fred Astaire" wines!!

Muga, Reserva 2006 Rioja, Spain

Powerful, intense and very lively, anxious to please from the start. Almost perfect mingling of red-berry fruit and toasted oak aromas on the nose, with the fruit coming to the fore in the mouth and rounding off a supple, balanced overall effect.

"Purple-colored with an already complex bouquet of pain grille, mineral, violets, black cherry, and blackberry, on the palate it is smooth-textured, layered, and concentrated. It conceals enough structure to evolve for 1-2 years and will offer optimal drinking from 2012 to 2026. It is an excellent value in serious Rioja."

The Muga wine cellars were founded in 1932 by Isaac Muga Martínez who originated from a family with strong ties to the winemaking industry. On the death of the founder in 1969, his children Manuel, Isabel and Isaac Muga Caño took over the reins.

Two years later in 1971, they moved their headquarters to their present location in the traditional Station District on the outskirts of Haro. Bodegas Muga has continued to grow as the years have passed but it has never lost the spirit or aptitude of a family-run company.

The winery controls every step of the viticultural and vinification process - from the vineyards to making their own barrels and fermenting and aging the wine entirely in oak. Bodegas Muga is one of the oldest, most elegant and traditional Rioja producers.

Luigi Bosca, Gala I, Malbec, Petite Verdot, Tannat

A sophisticated Malbec-based blend with soft Petit Verdot and Tannat contributions. A muscular and elegant wine. Deep color, with rich aromas of red fruit and delicate spiced notes. Contemporary and harmoniou - it is a vigorous effort that leaves a subtle vanilla trail in the palate.
 

Established in 1901 by Leoncio Arizu, Bodega Luigi Bosca has an extensive track-record in the local winemaking industry.

Currently managed by the third and fourth generations of the Arizu family, it is one of the few winemaking firms still owned by its founders. Its reputation, gained over the years, has made it the paradigm of Argentine wine.


Continuous innovation and an unwavering work spirit have allowed Luigi Bosca to achieve a solid position in worldwide markets. Over the last 15 years, they have strongly consolidated their leading position offering products with a personality and a style of their own that reflect the essence of Mendoza’s terroir, and their regional style, people and culture.

Luigi Bosca collaborated actively to create the Lujan de Cuyo Denomination of Origin, the first C.D.O. established in our country, proudly bringing it into line with other C.D.Os worldwide.
